This year Dhumavati Jayanti falls on the 30th (Saturday) 2020. It is the day when Mata Dhumavati is glorified and worshipped. The word Dhumavati is a combination Dhuma & Vati where dhuma means smoke and vati meaning being that, the smoky one. Goddess Dhumavati kills the demons by creating or discharging dangerous smokes from her body. Actually she is the 7th goddess of the ten Mahavidyas (the ten great divine mothers).

Mata Dhumavati describes the fearsome and ugly appearance of Devi. She is portrayed as restless and wicked. She is described as an old, ugly widow and Shakti without Shiva. She is associated with negative things viewed as inauspicious, unattractive and frustration, sorrows, poverty, destitution, suffering and loneliness. Such as the crow and the Chaturmas period. Dhumavati Amavasya is celebrated on the Ashtami (eighth day) of the Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month. Dhumavati Mata was incarnated to destroy sinners. By tying black sesame in black cloth and offering it to her, all the wishes of the devotee are fulfilled. Dhumavati devi is considered a widow due to swallowing her husband Lord Shiva and for this reason, she keeps wearing white clothes. Dhumavati Amavasya is a great opportunity to attain virtue. On this day, worship the goddess and do charity. This day is of the attainment of virtue and tantric siddhis.

Maa Dhumavati exists before the creation and after the dissolution and gives the proof for universal dissolution and is in the state of non-existence.The hym or Sahasranamam of Goddess Dhumavati represents both the positive and negative aspects. Goddess is supposed to be the personification of tamas gun which creates lust and ignorance.
