"Muktinath" also known as "Mukthinath" word is derived from "Mukti" & "Nath". Where the term Mukti means “Salvation or Nirvana” and the term Nath means "God or Master". Basically, Mukti holds great significance for all the spiritual people in the south Asian sub-continent. Muktinath Temple is a popular Vishnu temple and is sacred to both Hindus & Buddhists. It is located in the Muktinath Valley, Mustang, Nepal. The Muktinath Temple is one of the highest temples in the world. This temple is close to the village of Ranipauwa, which is also known as Muktinath.

Muktinath Temple Nepal/ About Muktinath Temple

The ancient Muktinath Temple is a sacred Vishnu Temple located in the region of Mustang District in Nepal. Actually, the Muktinath Temple (Chumig Gyatsa) is the symbol of the religious symbiosis between both Buddhists & Hindus. Hindu believes that Lord Maha Vishnu got the salvation from the curse of Brinda who was the wife of Jalandhar. That’s why he is worshipped as Muktinath (the lord of salvation).

Muktinath is the holy shrine and is said to have arisen on its own. This temple is one of the eight such shrines and the others are Srirangam, Sri Mushnam, Tirupati, Naimisaranyam, Thottadri, Pushkaram & Badrinath. This Muktinath Vishnu Temple is also one of the 108 Vaishnava shrines or 108 Divya Desam. The Hindus of 19th century consecrated a Vishnu temple and named Muktinath i.e. the Lord of Liberation.

Importance of Muktinath Temple

People believe that this world is "MAYA" (an illusion) of a life cycle of birth & rebirth. Everyone who seeks to get rid of this cycle and want to get nirvana they must visit the Muktinath Temple. There are 108 waterspouts in the backyard of this Muktinath Temple called Muktidhara. Here the frozen water continuously flows from the bullhead and two Kunda. It is also believed that taking bath in these 108 waterspouts & two Kunda (ponds) brings salvation.

When to visit Muktinath Temple?

The months of March, April, May, June, September, October & November are the best time to visit Muktinath Temple or Muktinath Vishnu Temple. During these months the weather will be clear & you can observe the snowcapped mountains closely.

As we know that the Muktinath Temple lies in conservation & trekking zone. So, there is two permits are required to enter in this area. The one is the Annapurna Conservation Area Project Permit (ACAP) whereas the other is Trekker's Information Management System Permit (TIMS).

It is restricted to enter in this zone without collecting these two permits thus people who are going to visit Muktinath Temples must have these two permits.

How to Go to Muktinath Temple

-Reach Muktinath Temple By Road - 2 nights (Kathmandu - Pokhara - Jomsom - Muktinath)
You can go to the Muktinath Temple by a roadway from Kathmandu to Pokhara by following the Prithvi Highway after that crossing Beni, Tatopani, Ghasa, Marpha, Jomsom & Kagbeni.

-Reach Muktinath Temple By Flight - 1 night (Kathmandu - Pokhara - Jomsom - Muktinath)
Jomsom is the closest airport to reach Muktinath Temple. First of all, you need to know that there are no direct flights from Kathmandu. So first, take a flight to Pokhara and then to Jomsom.

-Reach Muktinath Temple By Helicopter - 1:30 hours (Kathmandu - Muktinath)
You can go for Muktinath tour by helicopter from Kathmandu. Muktinath Temple is in just one and a half-hour flying distance by helicopter. Now from Ranipauwa, you can reach the Muktinath Temple easily by walking 30 minutes.

-Reach Muktinath Temple By Trekking - 7 nights
The Muktinath Temple can also be visited via adventurous trekking. First of all, go to Pokhara and you can start trekking from Nayapul. The average walking duration to reach Muktinath Temple by trekking is 7 to 8 hours/ day.
